Family-run Yorkshire campsite with incredible view ranked one of UK’s best

An independent campsite situated in a stunning spot by the Yorkshire Coast has been ranked as one of the best of its kind in the UK.

Hooks House Farm Campsite is currently placed at number four on the list of the UK’s highest rated independent campsites on TripAdvisor.

The campsite is loved for its stunning location by Robin Hood’s Bay as well its close proximity to the beach and the North York Moors, where visitors can go cycling and walking.

The campsite has been owned and run by the Halder family since 1985 and has become gradually more popular as the years have gone by.

Co-owner Joanne said: “There was a campsite here when it was taken over in 1985 but it was only small scale. It’s grown over the years to what it is now.”

On what makes the campsite such a hit with visitors, Joanne said: “The view and the location is key I think but we try to make it a low key family orientated site. We want to make it peaceful and relaxing so people can come and enjoy a holiday.

“It’s quite a basic site. The area is what people come to do things in. There are places for cycling, walking and the beach is on the doorstep.”

She said that the pandemic had seen the campsite have a busy summer but that restrictions have still reduced how many people they have been able to welcome.

On being included so highly on the TripAdvisor ranking, Joanne said: “It’s nice to hear people are enjoying it and hopefully people will enjoy it for years to come.”

And enjoy it people have. All of the most recent reviews from this summer have been either four or five stars, with one recent visitor from Doncaster saying it was “absolutely wonderful” and they “can’t recommend highly enough”.

They wrote: “It’s a lovely quiet site with friendly helpful owners, great view and a lovely walk down through the a sheep fields into the village. The facilities were always clean and well maintained. The showers were always hot.

“The site isn’t flat, (it’s on a hillside) but of course this is to be expected because of the location. It didn’t bother us at all. We had a great nights sleep- and i say, it offers great views of Robin hoods Bay.

“Our pitch was large enough for an 8 man tent, our car and for the children’s to have space to play without bothering any other campers.

“The grass pitches were also very well maintained- I didn’t spot a muddy patch anywhere.

“We can’t wait to return!”
