Package holiday prices plunge with bargains for late summer breaks

Package holiday prices have slumped by half compared to pre-pandemic levels with amazing bargains for some of the most popular destinations.

Trips departing in late August and early September are vastly cheaper than similar breaks in 2019 because of uncertainty still impacting holiday sales. Seven night deals can be found for less than £200.

Most searched for destinations on booking sites include Tenerife and the Canary Islands, Crete and the Costa del Sol.

Barbados is a value-for-money long haul option as airlines and tour operators strive to fill flight seats.

Emma Coulthurst, of TravelSupermarket, said many packages were much cheaper than similar deals before Covid-19 restrictions were introduced.

She said: “In the last week, the most searched destinations for a package holiday have been Tenerife and The Canaries, Crete, Barbados, the Algarve and the Costa del Sol.

“Costs remain low against pre-pandemic prices – as much as a quarter to a half less than if you’d been looking for a holiday during the summer of 2019.

“In terms of prices, Madeira is offering great value, as ever. but perhaps even more so at the moment, at the four and five star end of the market in September or October. I wonder if some people are forgetting that it’s on the green list?”

Deals to the Costa del Sol start at less than £200 for seven nights B&B at a four star hotel for early September. A five star all-inclusive break to Crete can be snapped up for around £400.

A dream seven-night trip to Barbados in early September is available for just £749 per person.
