Utilising data from Numbeo and Gov.uk, Parkdean analysed 64 UK seaside resorts to reveal the UK’s top 10 seaside holiday home spots. Each resort has been ranked on these factors:

  • The average house price
  • Population of over 65 year-olds
  • Quality of healthcare
  • Most popular locations
  • ONS happiness score

The results are shown in the table below.

Plymouth has come in second place

In second place is Plymouth, which scored one of the highest in popularity, making this location one of the most searched for places on Google for those looking to buy a holiday home.

Not only did Plymouth score highly for its popularity, but the locals also scored the seaside city an average of 7.51/10 for happiness. That’s something to smile about!

Average house prices here are much more than other seaside resorts, with homes coming in at a whopping £267,110 – over £100,000 more than its table-topping rival.

However, while it might impact your financial wellbeing, health levels are high. 79% of locals are in good health, making the most of all the benefits of sea air.

The Welsh city of Swansea beat Britain’s Ocean City, and offers a relatively low average house price of £146,657, meaning buying a second home by the coast could be an affordable option. It also boasts great health rates, with 78% of people there reported to be in good or very good health.

In third place is Lytham St Annes. A classic seaside resort on the coast of Lancashire, it offers a great social life for the older holiday maker, with 253,027 retirees calling it home.
