December calendar includes gingerbread houses, book fair, and make-and-take kits

As winter rolls in, the Buena Vista Public Library (BVPL) is offering a wide variety of classic events and new activities for the community to join. 

Starting December 1, the library’s Make-and-Take kits will be available for pickup, including a homemade marshmallow kit for adults and a felt garland kit for families.

This month’s Youth Make and Take program will offer a class on seeds, bulbs, and things that grow for their Kindergarten through 2nd-grade audience from 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, and a paper circuit activity for their 3rd through 5th graders from 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14.

Other programs this month include the weekly Reading to Rover session on Wednesdays, Alphabet Story Time on Fridays, and this month’s Destination Story Time, held at Crave BV at 10:00 a.m Friday, December 3.

Qigong involves coordinated, slow-flowing movement, deep breathing, and a meditative state of mind. Each monthly class introduces new exercises.

Stressed or anxious? Allow this soothing sound bath to relax and re-tune your mind. The immersive experience also involves breathwork and light movement. Replenish your energy for the holidays.

Story Time with Santa
Date: Friday, Dec. 17

Audience: All Ages
Santa visits for storytime at the Library. Sit with Santa and share a wish for this holiday.

Gingerbread House Decorating
Date: Saturday, Dec. 18
Time: 10:00—12:00 noon (Drop in anytime)
Audience: All Ages
Decorate a community gingerbread house at the Library. Stop in to help us build the mansion, or to decorate smaller houses to add to the village or take home.

Winter Break Reading BINGO
Date: Starts Saturday, Dec. 18th. Ends Friday, Jan. 7
Time: Drop by anytime to grab your card!
Audience: All Ages
Cozy up with books and play Winter Break Reading BINGO. A “BINGO” wins a prize. Complete the entire card (“blackout”) and be entered for the grand prize!

The BVPL is also planning to open a Create Station, where patrons will have the opportunity to learn about and work on graphic design, photo and video editing, podcast creation and editing, scanning old slides, and more.
