Town Offices Reopen

Town offices and public buildings reopened for full business hours on Monday, Nov. 15, after more than a year of reduced hours due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The library was already open six days a week, essentially 10 hours less than normal operations,” said Charlie Sumner, interim town administrator, during a Nov. 9 select board meeting. “Some staff from other offices just wanted to be sure we provided adequate public education to people about safety and masking.”

While the board of health rescinded the town-wide mask mandate during an emergency meeting on Friday, Nov. 5, masks will continue to be required inside town buildings, select board chair Ryan Curley said.

Pop-Up Covid Testing

For those gearing up for holiday travel, Covid-19 PCR tests will be administered this Friday, Nov. 19, at Wellfleet Elementary School from 2:15 to 4:15 p.m. “We wanted to offer this pop-up clinic so folks could be sure they weren’t positive for Covid-19 prior to Thanksgiving,” Hillary Greenberg-Lemos, Wellfleet’s health agent, told the Independent.

The outdoor drive-up clinic will be staffed by volunteers from the Cape Cod Medical Reserve Corps. The nasal swab test kits will be supplied by Barnstable County. Those interested in getting the all-clear before gathering with friends and family can pre-register online at or in the elementary school’s upper parking lot. Results will be returned within 36 to 48 hours. —Jasmine Lu
