Licking Heights West Elementary School staff, families offer holiday assistance

Licking Heights West Elementary School Counselor Jordan Mora’s office looked like a mini-Santa’s Workshop as staff and students readied for the Dec. 17 holiday break.

For a second year, teachers and West staff members donated toys and other Christmas presents to help needy families served by the school. Some of the school’s families pitched in, and some staff members also reached out to local churches and “neighborhood bridges” for further assistance.

Boxed gift items and gift cards were to being picked up on Dec. 14 by families in need of holiday gift-giving assistance.

Mora said, “Last year, we helped three families — four children — and this year we helped 12 families — 23 children — from all schools in (the) Licking Heights (School District).”

Among the items spotted in Mora’s office were Nerf toys and Lego sets, dolls, sports equipment and action figures.
