Summer School Holiday Fun in Moonee Valley

Kids and youths can enjoy the summer school holidays with a fun and exciting range of programs and activities planned across Moonee Valley.

Moonee Valley Mayor Samantha Byrne said the that upcoming school holiday program had something for everyone, with opportunities to learn new skills and make friends.

“There are plenty of activities on offer to keep kids and youths entertained, including painting and origami workshops, art exhibitions, a pool party, yoga and meditations sessions and much more,” Mayor Byrne said.

“The whole family can also get into the festive spirit and visit Santa at Sam Merrifield Library or even test their riding skills at the Essendon Traffic School.”

There is an array of free and low-cost programs to choose from during December and January.

Native Christmas Tree decorating

Primary school children are invited to decorate native Christmas trees at Sam Merrifield, Niddrie or Avondale Heights. Trees will later be planted around Moonee Valley.

Hear the fascinating story of Yolu artist Djerrku Yunupiu, whose life as a mermaid before she was born is retold in this making activity.

During this National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) curated program, Yolu author, filmmaker and artist Siena Mayutu Wurmarri Stubbs shares her culture and connections to the land, including her homeland, Bawaka, East Arnhem Land.

These sessions are put together by photographer Tom Blachford and fashion stylist Aurie Indianna for the NGV Kids on Tour series.

Scavenger hunt at Queens Park. Kids collect a ‘junior ranger kit’ from Sam Merrifield any time during January and complete a self-directed scavenger hunt in Queens Park. Come back to the library to collect a prize.

Clocktower Centre and Black Hole Theatre are delighted to bring you 5, 6, 7 Create – four videos that will amuse and immediately engage young children in the art of puppetry. Using only simple things you have in the house, like a rag, this series will encourage your child’s creativity, and help them see their world in a new way.

Fix it!

Fix it! is a four-part online video series created by Anna Thomson Comedy, exploring fun, interactive and very silly ways to connect with your inner clown and the environment around you. Get ready for games, nature-inspired challenges, talking bins, underwater escapades, singing compost and more, as Fix it! inspires you to find creative ways to get your hands dirty, and access the tools to create change!

Fireworks Exhibition

The Fireworks exhibition and awards showcases the accomplishments of high achieving art and design students in Years 11 and 12 who live, work or study in Moonee Valley.

In 2021 Incinerator Gallery will present the ninth Fireworks and demonstrates Council’s ongoing commitment to the support and promotion of young local artists and designers. This exhibition provides a platform for our young creatives to share their works with the greater community and to encourage their ongoing creativity and ingenuity.

Join us for an excursion to Moonee Valley Legal Service. You’ll take a tour of their legal offices then be transported to a court where you’ll get the chance to watch a case in action! You will have the chance to speak to a judge afterwards and participate in an interactive learning experience.

Rainbow Valley

Rainbow Valley is a welcoming, safe social group for young people to hang out, create events, support each other and express who they are.

The group meet on a monthly basis, on the last Friday of the month. Currently these meetings are being held online on Zoom.

Essendon Traffic School Public Session

Public sessions at Essendon Traffic School are from 10am to 12 noon from Monday to Saturday, excluding public holidays.

Monday and Wednesday are considered junior sessions, for children aged between 2 and 6 years (inclusive). Children aged 7 and over will not be permitted to ride during junior public sessions but are welcome at all other sessions.

All other sessions are available for children aged 2 to 10 years.
