Boost for holiday bookings as pre‑departure Covid testing to be scrapped

International travel will receive a huge boost today when ministers scrap pre-departure Covid tests for people heading to the UK.

Airlines and tour operators have been pressing for the measures to be relaxed, given the considerable presence of the Omicron variant already in the UK.

The tests are seen as a massive deterrent for booking foreign holidays because people fear testing positive while abroad and being unable to return home as planned.

The cabinet is due to sign off the change in rules this afternoon.
