Jet2 begin first flights to Sardinia in Italy from Stansted Airport

A travel firm has launched its first flights to a new holiday hotspot from Stansted Airport. Jet2 have been celebrating the first flights to leave the airport for Sardinia in Italy.

The first flight from Jet2 to Sardinia left the airport on Sunday (May 15), and now future flights to the location can be booked. Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean sea, and is located west of the Italian Peninsula, north of Tunisia and immediately south of the French island of Corsica.

Stansted Airport shared the news of the new flights on their social media channels on Sunday. The airport has been enjoying more passengers using the venue following the complete easing of Covid-19 restrictions earlier this year.

A spokesman for the airport said on Sunday: “Say hello Sardinia with Jet2.com and Jet2holidays which took off on their first flight today. This dreamy island escape has a distinctly Italian feel. The snow-white sand sloping into glimmering turquoise waters is its signature style and makes it the ultimate beach heaven…

“Fly into Olbia and discover the beautiful Costa Smeralda with weekly flights available this summer up to and including the 16th October.”

The news comes off the back of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays offering a programme of flights and holidays to Dalaman from London Stansted Airport for this summer. With up to 12 weekly flights departing this summer, local holidaymakers have great choice and flexibility when it comes to reaching Marmaris and getting more bang for their buck.

With a reported price drop of 37 per cent year-on-year and an average daily cost for common holiday spends standing at £26.13, Marmaris emerged as the destination where holidaymakers’ pounds will stretch the furthest.
