‘I went to a London rooftop bar in Farringdon and I thought I was on holiday’

Let’s be real – London’s rooftop bar game is strong. The capital city boasts one of the most incredible skylines in the world, and when temperatures start to get warmer – it is officially the start of rooftop season.

Luckily for us we are completely spoilt for choice. From swanky rooftop gardens to heated terraces that are totally free to enter, there are no shortage of rooftop bars. There is nothing better than a delicious cocktail with a beautiful view over London, right?

Although there is a great variety, a lot of these places are in high demand and it can be difficult to narrow the list down to choosing one. This is where I come and save the day – as I think I found one of London’s best rooftop bars and no one else seems to have heard of it.

Tucked away near Farringdon Tube station is Smiths of Smithfield, which boasts not just a bar and a restaurant but also trendy rooftop terrace. I am lucky to get a reservation booked on a Friday evening and the weather is set to be gloriously sunny. So far everything is going far too well and I try not to be superstitious.

My booking is at 6pm, which is perfect as it meant golden hour weather will be on the cards. I walk up three flights of stairs to get to the terrace and considering I ran a half marathon a few days ago, I felt like I need a new set of legs. But boy, when I get up there, it is divine.

‘To drink and dance your way around the panoramic bar for full-circle views is simply priceless’

The rooftop bar is fairly simple and relaxing, but this is not why I am here. All I cared about was the view. As I am ushered to my table, I look out and immediately spot St. Pauls. It is all I have been longing for.

Not only am I blessed with incredible views of the Cathedral, but I spot iconic London attractions such as The Shard and The Fenchurch Building. It is not the most perfect London skyline but it does the job.

The terrace also adds an element of Ibiza vibes with its palm trees, garden furniture and there is a DJ playing R&B and house tunes. To drink and dance your way around the panoramic bar for full-circle views is simply priceless.

Speaking of which, the bar offers a huge catalogue of cocktails and an impressive wine menu, with decent virgin options. The prices are slightly more expensive than I desire but with such an incredible view, it is fair to say that I am getting what I pay for.

I feel like I have convinced myself that I’ve won a European holiday – or that my lifestyle is far more chic than it really is. As the night draws in, more and more people gather on the rooftop and adds a city buzz. The atmosphere is pretty hard to beat.

Even better, when it was time to leave, the venue is only a five minute walk to St. Pauls so if you want to get closer without having to pay for a premium, it is only a few steps away. I got my dose of posh holiday vibes without having to actually go on a plane. Happy days.
